This new program enables students to take advantage of our courses without committing to a full MA degree. It may be useful for students seeking personal or professional enrichment on particular subjects. Or it may help in developing the softer skills that reports from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Society for Human Resource Management have shown are much sought after by employers, skills such as in communication, writing, creative thinking, teamwork, reasoning, and problem-solving.
Requirements
The Certificate in Graduate Liberal Studies (MINI-MALS) program requires a total of 13 credits. These include the following:
- The required “Introduction to Graduate Liberal Studies” course (1 credit)
- Plus four other Graduate Liberal Studies courses (12 credits)
There is no capstone project and there are no subject area requirements. Students who wish to do so may also complete an optional Academic Concentration by taking four of their courses in a concentration area.
Apply for the MINI-MALS program with the regular Rutgers graduate application form.
MINI-MALS students may transfer into the MALS program at any time they wish. To do so, complete this form.
Tuition Scholarships
There are no tuition scholarships for MINI-MALS students. MINI-MALS students are encouraged to first apply to the full MALS program, where they are eligible for tuition scholarships, and then transfer using the form above to MINI-MALS once 13 credits are completed.
